Julia Bodian's Senior Recital
Julia played an impressive assortment of widely varied pieces for her senior recital. She featured on the second half a special tribute set dedicated to the primary teachers she’s had, a fascinating look back at a very particular pedagogical lineage, from Pablo Escobar to Jorge Morel to myself. She finished with a spirited and festive ensemble take of one of Jorge Morel’s perennial favorites, Danza Brasilera, accompanied by piano, bass and several percussionists. Throughout the concert, Julia played with a ferocious virtuosity and joyous musical abandon, a combination which brought the audience to its feet. Her audience turnout was superb, with barely and empty seat in the house—a testament to the many friends she’s made while at Oberlin, and to the very high regard in which all there hold her.
