Rio Manzanares' Freshman Recital
Rio Manzanares played his first Oberlin recital in Stull Recital Hall, with the leaves bright green behind him, outside the room’s third-story windows. He presented a sampling of the works he’d studied this year, with representative entries from each style period, including pieces by Dowland, Giuliani, Lauro and Pujol. He included a special appearance by his friend and vocal chamber music partner, tenor, Quinn Albinus. Here is a photographic recap. The program is at the end of the post.
The songs opened the program. The duo’s confidence was up considerably since their first performance of this music, in our recent Guitar Ensemble concert.
Rio’s solo selections followed.
The recital concluded, Rio takes a bow. A terrific marker for progress made, this program was the first of what we hope will be many concerts played by Rio in Oberlin’s halls.
