Suvan Agarwal Wins Tuesday Musical Club Prizes
The Tuesday Musical Club, a 135 year old organization based in Akron, OH, has been running state-wide music competitions for many years. With categories for all the instruments, it has long been a key moment in the annual lives of young musicians across Ohio. We in the guitar studio were delighted this year when Conservatory junior, Suvan Agarwal was the ONLY Oberlin student to win a prize. (Normally, there would also be strong representation in the other instrumental areas—piano, violin, etc.) The prize monies awarded are cast as scholarships. Suvan won the Margaret Watts Hunter Scholarship, for $2,000.
The winners of each category gather about two months after after the initial rounds and each perform a short set, in hopes of winning the TMC Grand Prize. This year, while Suvan did not win the grand prize, he was awarded the special audience award. A new offering, the John M. Ream Jr. DDS People’s Choice Award, awarded to him this Sunday, added another $500 to his takeaway. Congratulations Suvan!!
