Sam Schollenberger's Freshman Recital

Sam gave his first Oberlin recital this week in Fairchild Chapel. The way he played bodes extremely well for his future endeavors here! He navigated a huge program with a professional’s poise and control. I knew what was coming and even I was impressed.

He started with an elegant and nuanced reading of the entire first Cello Suite of Bach, followed by a confident and stylistic presentation of the less-often played Variations Op. 128 of Giuliani. These landed without a hitch.

A rousing Hommage a Tarrega by Turina followed, and led into a presentation of Dyens beloved Saudade No 3, a work Schollenberger clearly enjoys playing.

Sam finished up with Domeniconi’s Koyunbaba, a piece he landed with impressive confidence and clarity. Bravo, Sam, for an impressive program, beautifully played!
