Caeli Massey's Senior Recital

Caeli Massey's Senior Recital

In her fourth solo recital at Oberlin, Caeli Massey presented a brilliant program of varied, difficult works in a welcome return to the stage of Kulas Hall, this time, un-masked. (Her Junior Recital was played off-site as a streaming-only event).

Caeli had begun exploring works by female composers and happily, two of them were included: Maria Luisa Anido and Ida Presti. Works of substance alternated with shorter pieces in a way that was immensely enjoyable for the audience. Her Gran Jota (Tarrega) and Seikilos (Assad) were particularly noteworthy. And, we’ve possibly never heard a more riveting (and blindingly fast) interpretation of Dyens’ Fuoco, her final piece. Wow!

Caeli demonstrated once again her powerful musical impulses and ample artistic imagination. She balanced her use of subtlety and nuance with virtuosic display, always delivered with precision and a professional cool that was mightily impressive. This performance was a worthy culmination of her years of studying at Oberlin. Bravo!!

Following are some snapshots from the evening. The full program is at the end of the post, along with links to my posts about her previous programs.

We at Oberlin will miss you, Caeli! We wish you every success on your next adventure!
