Spring 2017 Guitar Ensemble Concert

Spring 2017 Guitar Ensemble Concert

On Wednesday, April 19, the Oberlin guitar studio filled Kulas Recital Hall with chamber music again, to great effect. The six students presented nearly 90 minutes of music. We had a terrific and appreciative audience for a varied and challenging program. A quick rundown with snapshots follows; the full program is at the end.

We opened with Stephen Fazio and soprano Madison Williams in a performance of Lezcano's songs "Canciones Lluvia":

Next up, was violinist Abigail Hekel-Garcia with guitarist Collin Sterne, in a reading of Piazzolla's l"Histoire du Tango:

They were followed by a guitar duet featuring Mohit Dubey and Brian King playing Mohit's original arrangements of three Scriabin Preludes, Op. 11; they were sublime.

Brian King then returned to the stage with flutist Katie Kim, for a brilliant performance of Tower's Snow Dreams:

Next up was Mohit Dubey, in a return to stage with tenor Nicolas Music for a compelling reading of five lieder from Schubert's Winterreise:

Finally, Aidan Wiley Lippke and Jonathan Bodian gave an inspired performance of the irresistible Suite Retratos of Gnattali:

Thanks to everyone for a great semester of chamber music. Bravo!!
