Fall 2017 Guitar Ensemble II
Our second seasonal Ensemble concert this Fall featured four duos. Atypically, half of them were guitar duets. The other two, featuring mixed chamber music, included the flute and the violin.
The concert began with group of four of Carulli's guitar duets, as played by Caeli Massey and Arcangel Velazquez:
Next, came a reading of a seldom-heard Variations set by Giuliani, as played by violinist Abigail Hakel-Garcia and guitarist Collin Sterne:
Then, we heard a stirring performance of three movements of the Mountain Songs by Robert Beaser, as played by Aram Mun, flute and Stephen Fazio, guitar:
Finally, in perhaps the most compelling student performance I have ever heard of the famous Tango Suite of Piazzolla, in the brilliant hands of Brian King and Mohit Dubey, the evening came to a rousing conclusion:
The concert was well-attended and the performances went really well. In all, we had a tremendous semester in chamber music. And next semester, more to come!! Thanks everyone, for your hard work and dedication to fine music-making.
