Alumnus and Luthier, David Gohara, Donates Guitar
David Gohara studied with me at first at The University of Akron and then, after transferring, at Oberlin Conservatory, where he double-majored in classical guitar and biochemistry ('97). In the end, his interest in the sciences took over and he chose to focus his efforts there, but he remained an avid musician. Later, after completing his Ph.D. in biochemistry at Penn State, working as a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, and landing in Missouri as an Assistant Research Professor at St. Louis University, he took up guitar building.
His instruments are absolutely gorgeous, displaying fine craftsmanship and extraordinary care and attention to detail. We at Oberlin are thrilled to have this instrument available to the students to borrow and use on stage. And I am delighted to have this concrete connection between us, underscoring the years we worked together on music making. Thank you David, for your generous gift!!”
