Jorge Caballero at Oberlin
Peruvian-American guitarist, Jorge Caballero, in his first Oberlin appearance, played a program of heroic masterworks in Kulas Recital Hall at the Conservatory last week. Known for his interpretations of the extraordinary orchestral work-arrangements of Kazuhito Yamashita, Caballero didn't disappoint, bringing with him Dvôrak's New World Symphony. In addition, he played original arrangements of works by Mozart and Albeniz (full program at the end of the post). The concert drew a rousing standing ovation. The next day, he taught the Oberlin students in a terrific master class. Here are some shots from his visit:
Stephen Fazio played the first movement of Moreno-Torroba's Sonatina in A:
Archie Velasquez played Villa-Lobos' Prelude No. IV:
Brian King played the Passacaglia from Rodrigo's Three Spanish Pieces:
Mohit Dubey played Rodrigo's Invocacion y Danza:
Thank You Jorge, for your inspiring performance and thoughtful master class. We look forward to seeing you again!
