Dieter Hennings, guitar professor at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and a guitarist with an increasing reputation in new-music circles, found himself at Oberlin again this week. This time, he was here to take advantage of our remarkable new recording facility, Clonick Hall, for a premiere recording of the Guitar Concerto No. 1 by Mexican composer, Juan Trigos (his school awarded him a grant for the purpose). While in town, the ensemble gave the piece a run-through on stage with the Oberlin Sinfonietta. Conductor of the group and of our renowned Contemporary Music Ensemble, and resident genius, Tim Weiss, took advantage of Dieter's presence for a reading of the terrific Psalmodies by Poul Ruders, performed a few days later. We had a new-guitar-concerto-festival!
