Oberlin Studio Funded to Attend Sorrento Guitar Festival
Oberlin Conservatory guitar majors have been extraordinarily blessed recently by the generous attention of an anonymous benefactor. They were fully funded to attend the GFA last year in California; this year, the group will be fully funded to attend the Sorrento Guitar Festival in Sorrento, Italy.
The Sorrento Guitar Festival, held in one of Italy's most spectacularly gorgeous locations, features daily lessons, master classes and a guitar orchestra, plus several feature concerts. There will be a number of scheduled outings and opportunities to explore the area as well, making the experience as rich as possible. The featured faculty of Douglas James, Pasquale Rucco and Stephen Aron will each perform in two concerts; students will perform as well, in the gala finale concert, both as soloists and in the guitar orchestra.
It is hard to imagine a more exciting opportunity for the all-undergraduate guitar studio of Oberlin Conservatory than this. The studio is well into planning for their trip, many having arranged lengthy follow-up travels to take advantage of their presence in Europe. For some, it will be their first trip abroad.
We are immensely moved by the generosity of our benefactor. He/she has truly changed the lives of the guitarists at Oberlin! How can we ever properly say thank you? This much is certain: The guitarists going on this trip will never forget it!!!
